The Universitat Autònoma de Barcelona has, through the Fundació UAB, promoted the Fundació Biblioteca Josep Laporte, an ultramodern project that is unique in the world. It stems from the desire to cater for the information and knowledge needs of both professionals and users of health services, and to manage scientific knowledge and information concerning health, all of this providing professionals working in that field with the facilities to make urgent decisions at any level. The activities of the Biblioteca Josep Laporte are structured around a physical library, a basic virtual or digital library, different knowledge-management centres, interactive educational activities carried out from the library and research projects.

The Fundació Biblioteca Josep Laporte, which brings together different academic and health institutions, seeks to provide a solution to the excess of information available for health sciences by categorising and organising it according to strict, scientifically-viable criteria.
